Sophomore Zach Smith will start instead of senior Anu Solomon against Duke on Saturday, Matt Rhule announced Monday on the Big 12 teleconference.

Smith had four starts and played in all 13 games for Baylor last season. He completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 1,526 yards with 13 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He was the starter for the Bears’ 31-12 win over Boise State in the Catcus Bowl.

Solomon beat out Smith for the starting job during preseason practices. He has started at quarterback for the Bears each of the past two games, but the team has struggled on offense so far this season.
