Remember when the biggest criticism or question mark of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott during a sensational rookie season of a year ago was an alleged inability to throw the deep ball and a supposed lack of chemistry with star receiver Dez Bryant.

Never mind that Bryant missed much of training camp last year with injuries when Prescott was not yet named the starter. Or that Bryant was sidelined for three games early in with the season with a fracture in his knee.

Troy Aikman is a Dak Prescott fan.

Aikman, the Hall of Fame quarterback who led the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl championships in the 1990s, liked how Prescott handled his rookie season.

Prescott made a more seamless transition into the NFL than Aikman.

Prescott had arguably the best rookie season by a quarterback in league history, leading the Cowboys to a 13-3 record with 3,667 passing yards, a 67.8 percent completion percentage, 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

FRISCO, Texas — About five years ago, Michael Meredith was embedded with the 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army in Afghanistan doing research for a script.

The village elders were wary of the soldiers, who were offering cement to rebuild a community center that had been torn apart by the ongoing war.

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have held training camp practices in Texas before. They have called San Antonio, Austin and Wichita Falls home, but they have not held training camp practices at their own facility.

Until today.

The Cowboys will hold their first of six practices at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, starting Monday after a three-plus-week run in Oxnard, California.

In 2016, Sam Bradford set a single-season NFL record for completion percentage (71.6 percent) but finished 17th in Total QBR. Clearly, completion percentage can be a misleading stat, boosted by short passes that don’t lead to successful plays for an offense.

Football Outsiders has used game-charting data to create a better way of quantifying accuracy and completion percentage. The core idea is passing plus-minus, which estimates how many passes a quarterback completed compared to what an average quarterback would have completed based on each throw’s distance, the yards needed for a first down, and which side of the field the pass was thrown to.

Which rookie pass-rusher will be this year’s Joey Bosa? History says probably none of them. What Bosa did as a rookie last season for the Chargers — 10.5 sacks in only 12 games — was bonkers. And while teams that picked pass-rushers early in this year’s draft have high hopes for their own prospective Bosas, there’s a good chance they’ll have to wait.

FRISCO, Texas — Sixteen of the 21 members of the Dallas Cowboys’ Ring of Honor and four family members of those deceased took part in a ceremony Monday at The Star unveiling monuments acknowledging the former Cowboys’ careers.

FRISCO, Texas — Have the Dallas Cowboys opened up a competition for the backup spot to Dak Prescott?

For the first time this summer, Cooper Rush took second-team snaps over Kellen Moore, a byproduct of how well the undrafted rookie has played in three preseason games. The two split the second-team work, with Moore getting eight snaps and Rush getting 13 after taking over in the end-of-practice situational work.

If the Cowboys were to only keep nine guys on the D-line, who do u see being cut? If they move Crawford back to DT and kept Collins, Thornton and Paea there. With Lawrence, Charlton, Irving, Mayowa, Tapper, and Moore…who is the odd man out?

Bryan: I initially only had them keeping nine and I adjusted it to 10 by adding Joey Ivie. So going back to nine: I don’t have either of the rookie defensive tackles making the squad.

Every year, the Cowboys shock their fanbase with a few surprising cuts before the season starts. In 2016, Dallas released defensive end Ryan Russell and cornerback Deji Olatoye, two players who seemed like locks to make the roster.
