British kayaker Liam Heath has claimed Team GB’s 25th gold at the Olympics by winning the 200m sprint final.

Heath, 32, had a poor start but surged back through the field, snatching victory in the last 50 metres.

Team GB’s latest gold medal winner was among the favourites to win but was given a run for his money by Frenchman Maxime Beaumont.

But the Brit surged through to win gold – four years after he took bronze in London.

The New Zealand women’s kayaking quartet have issued a warning to their Olympic final rivals – they’re not a one-trick pony.

Jaimee Lovett, Kayla Imrie, Aimee Fisher and Caitlin Ryan powered into tonight’s 500 metre final in resounding style, dominating their semifinal at Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon.

Needing a top-three finish, they bolted from the blocks and built a buffer of nearly half a length by the midway point. More importantly, they maintained it, heading off Ukraine and Denmark.

It was a telling statement from the youthful Kiwis, who arrived in Rio with a reputation for fast starts.

Who doesn’t long for the day when driving a McLaren 570s with a kayak strapped to the roof is a normal part of life? Why not add some flying pigs to accommodate? Rain Prisk Designs have made something possible but not probable, and like the lure of the siren song expectations are born but can never be met. Because taking a kayak on top of a McLaren and driving it into the wilderness is ludicrous. It’s still an interesting idea and fun to play with. Plus it just looks awesome, especially with that psychedelic wrap.
