The Huskers earned the No. 10 spot in the first College Football Playoff poll of the 2016 season, the team’s highest ranking since the playoff system debuted in 2014.

The Big Ten has five teams in the playoff rankings, including four teams in the top 10 — No. 3 Michigan, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 8 Wisconsin and No. 10 Nebraska.

It marks the first appearance by any of Mike Riley’s teams in the rankings.

While Nebraska did not appear in last season’s College Football Playoff rankings, the Huskers were included two seasons ago — the first year of the rankings.

Yet there might not be a more surprising team overall than No. 7 Nebraska, which sits at 7-0 entering a showdown with No. 11 Wisconsin this weekend. In just Mike Riley’s second year in Lincoln he has revamped the program and has them playing for a potential Big Ten title.
