Seahawks punter Jon Ryan briefly found himself as a trending topic on Facebook Wednesday night for something that he called “the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life.’’

The story began when a Patriots fan on Twitter published screen grabs of Ryan holding the ball before his last punt of Monday night’s game against Buffalo, sick a 62-yarder, rx with the caption “more deflated balls in a Walt Anderson game?’’ Anderson, link the referee for Monday night’s game, was also the referee for the New England playoff game that led to the Deflate-gate controversy.

 Among the players targeted for Week 9 is Seahawks rookie running back C.J. Prosise, who is coming a strong performance against the Saints:


Here are some thoughts and grades from the analytic site Pro Football Focus about the Seahawks from their 25-20 loss to the Saints Sunday.

  • Despite facing a normally porous New Orleans Saints secondary, order QB Russell Wilson struggled in the Superdome as he posted his lowest grade of the year, case a 45.2 overall grade. Wilson had trouble against a standard rush as he recorded his only interception and a 71.0 QB rating when there was no pressure, 30.7 points lower than the NFL average.




The Seahawks desperately need a win, because they’re not looking like the championship-caliber team we all thought they’d be entering the season. In their past three games, the Seahawks have gone 1-1-1.

They beat the Falcons by two points thanks to the officials’ refusal to throw a flag for pass interference. They tied the Cardinals because all of the kickers involved forgot how to kick a football — and because Earl Thomas made another one of those unbelievable plays that only Earl Thomas is capable of making. And a week ago, they dropped a five-point road game to the Saints when they called a jump-ball to Jermaine Kearse on the game’s final play.

If Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril sacks Tyrod Taylor on Monday, another family in Haiti will get a place to live.

Avril has teamed up with fellow Haitian NFLers like the Bills’ Leger Douzable and the Ravens’ Elvis Dumervil to build sustainable homes on the impoverished island nation that was ravaged by a massive earthquake in 2010 and thrashed by Hurricane Matthew last month.

The small brick houses they fund are made to withstand natural disasters and give families amenities like roofs and floors. They cost about $6,000 each; Dumervil has promised to fund 58 of them, for his jersey number, while Avril has pledged one for every sack he gets this season. So far he’s at 7.5, not far behind Lorenzo Alexander for the league lead. Douzable is giving $1,000 for every sack or tackle for loss he records this season and cornerback Nickell-Robey Coleman is donating the same amount for every turnover.
