RIO DE JANEIRO — The two U.S. swimmers who were abruptly taken off a plane and detained in Rio on Wednesday night have been allowed to leave the country.

NBC News reported Friday morning that Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger had arrived in Miami.

Scott Blackmun, the U.S. Olympic Committee CEO, said in a statement late Thursday that Bentz and Conger, who had been with Ryan Lochte last Sunday morning when an incident at a local gas station occurred, gave statements to police, had their passports returned “and they recently departed Rio.”

Not only did it start the meet off with a splash and inspire confidence in a team that has 24 of its 28 members making their Olympic debut, it was the first medal for a Canadian female swimmer in 20 years.

The four U.S. Olympic swimmers who claimed they were victims of an armed robbery in Rio were actually the ones causing trouble that night, and they fabricated their account of the incident, Rio’s police chief said Thursday.

Although officials did admit that local security guards pulled a gun on Ryan Lochte and his fellow swimmers and extracted about $50 in cash from them.

The U.S. Olympic Committee apologized to Brazil for the swimmers’ behavior Thursday night, calling the incident a “distracting ordeal in the midst of what should rightly be a celebration of excellence.”

Ryan Lochte and Fiancée Kayla Rae Reid Expecting First Child

Winning Olympic gold this summer might officially be the second-best moment of swimmer Ryan Lochte‘s 2016: he’s going to be a dad!

The 32-year-old is expecting his first child with fiancée Kayla Rae Reid, seek the couple announced on social media Wednesday.

“My Christmas gift came early this year, sick can’t wait for next year,” wrote Lochte alongside a photo of he and Reid in the pool. “Best news I’ve ever received #CLOUD9 #excited #family #love #2017.”

Reid, a Playboy model, also broke the big news on her Instagram with a similar photo.

RIO DE JANEIRO – Michael Phelps told American youngsters Caeleb Dressel and Ryan Held to “let the tears out” after they broke down with emotion following the United States’ dramatic victory in the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay on Sunday night.

Held, 21, and Dressel, 19, joined Olympic legend Phelps and anchor Nathan Adrian to beat out France and Australia, and wept with joy both on the medal podium and afterwards.
