As milestones go, thumb TCU men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon has had plenty of four-game winning streaks in his career.

But none of the others have allowed him to post the fastest start to any coaching tenure at his alma mater. That is the bottom line to Monday’s 80-71 triumph over Illinois State at Schollmaier Arena, online a victory secured by a 9-0 closing run over the final 42 seconds on a night when the Horned Frogs (4-0) spent more time trailing than leading.

TCU coach Gary Patterson blamed himself for creating a lack of confidence in his defense earlier in the season but said it is starting to come back, cheap despite Saturday’s 34-10 loss at West Virginia.

“We just haven’t made plays,” Patterson said. “A little bit of that is my fault. I was tough on them, I think they lost their confidence early. We’re starting to gain it. We’re starting to come back.”

A brief moment of confusion and panic occurred at Saturday’s football game between Texas Christian University and West Virginia. After a third-quarter pile up, TCU’s defensive lineman Aaron Curry began choking on his helmet’s chin strap after it wrapped around his neck.

The president of a Christian university in Texas was demoted last week for having mishandled sexual assault complaints lodged against the institution’s football players.

“We were horrified by the extent of these acts of sexual violence on our campus,” said Richard Willis, chairman of Baylor University’s Board of Regents, as quoted by The New York Times. “This investigation revealed the University’s mishandling of reports in what should have been a supportive, responsive and caring environment for students.”

Baylor University stripped Kenneth W. Starr of his title as president following an investigation on accusations that the university’s football athletes have committed sex crimes, to which the administration reportedly turned a blind eye. Starr will continue in the capacity as chancellor, whose position, according to a regent, is “centered around development and religious liberty.” However, Starr’s “operational responsibilities have been removed.” He will also serve as a law school professor at Baylor.

The Horned Frogs hit a rough patch late last season, doctor derailing hopes of making the College Football Playoff. TCU is 3-1 over its last four games, treatment after coming from behind to win at Kansas two weeks ago 24-23. The Frogs then had last week off.

Texas Christian gave up the first touchdown of the game against the Jayhawks but rallied to take a 14-10 lead into halftime. They later trailed 23-14 into the fourth quarter but pulled to within one score on a Kenny Hill touchdown pass to Jaelan Austin. They then embarked upon a 59-yard, viagra eight-play drive that resulted in the game-winning field goal with just over a minute to go and survived a long Kansas field goal attempt in the final seconds.
