In early April, July track competitions may seem far out but before you know it, Canada’s best will be gearing up and getting set to race each other at the Canadian Track and Field Championships. It has just been announced this week that the meet will be held in Ottawa this year as part of the country’s 150th birthday celebrations.

The event will run from July 3 to July 9. Top track athletes who will be racing this year include Andre De Grasse, Melissa Bishop, Damian Warner, Derek Drouin, Alister McQueen and Brent Lakatos.

The most notable road running series in Canada kicked off on Saturday at High Park in Toronto.

The Race Roster Spring Run-Off, the first race of the Canada Running Series circuit, celebrated its 40th edition this morning. The event is the annual kickoff to spring for many runners and features a challenging course most notable for having the “Kill the Hill Challenge,” a timed segment up Spring Road Hill near the end of the race.

The 2016 Olympic marathon champion Jemima Sumgong has tested positive for a banned substance in an out-of-competition drug test, the International Association of Athletics Federations announced Thursday.

Sumgong, 32, who was the first Kenyan woman to win an Olympic marathon, underwent an unannounced test that detected EPO. The test was conducted by the IAAF as part of a program supported by the World Marathon Majors (WMM) organization, the coalition of race organizations that put on the Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York City marathons.

The Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon is not a small affair—in fact, the race, which offers six race distances and one handcycle event, hosts 40,000(!) runners every year. And if you’ve ever been to Tel Aviv (or read about the bustling city), you know it’s one of the places to visit in Israel.

This year’s winner broke the tape in 2 hours, 12 minutes, 12 seconds—dang! The race is the biggest sporting event in Israel, from the large number of runners to the 150,000 that line the streets to cheer. (Just remember that it’s measured in kilometers, not miles—42K, anyone?)
