Edwin van der Sar used to wind up Cristiano Ronaldo at Man Utd

EDWIN VAN DER SAR says he used to wind up Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

The duo worked together at Manchester United and the Dutchman says Ronaldo was constantly practicing his technique.

Van der Saar, however, used to tease the Portuguese ace.

“After training sessions he would often work on his free-kicks and then come to me and say: ‘Edwin, can you go in goal?’” he told FourFourTwo.

“I’d say I was old so he would be better off using one of the youth-team keepers, but he would insist I went in goal as he wanted to score past me.

“I would tease him a lot and say things like: ‘You won’t score against me, Ronnie, you know it. Ask the reserve goalie, that’s better for your confidence.

“He’d get agitated and reply: ‘No, no. You’ve got to go in goal!’”

Ronaldo was eventually transferred to Real in 2009 for then world-record £80m.

Cristiano Ronaldo is causing friction behind the scenes at Real Madrid

ISCO hasn’t forgiven Cristiano Ronaldo for his early treatment at Real Madrid.

That’s according to Spanish news outlet Diario Gol who say he holds a grudge against the Portuguese superstar.

Isco was snapped up from Malaga in 2013, but initially struggled to establish himself.

The Spain international wanted to play on the left flank.

But at the time Ronaldo played there and refused to accommodate his team-mate.

Dario Gol say Isco hasn’t forgotten the former Manchester United star’s lack of co-operation as he tried to settle at the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo now plays centrally in Real’s attack and Isco is deployed in his preferred role.

He has now established himself as an integral first team-player and is well liked in the Real dressing room.

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has said “nobody doubts” Cristiano Ronaldo as he heads into his 400th game for the club on the back of a frustrating run of form.

Ronaldo has yet to score in La Liga this season, having missed the first four games through suspension and had 18 unsuccessful shots in the recent games against Real Betis and Alaves.

Madrid travel to Borussia Dortmund for a Champions League game on Tuesday — Ronaldo’s 400th game — and speaking at the prematch news conference, Carvajal said: “Nobody doubts Cristiano.

“I have the good luck to enjoy him all year — every training session is spectacular.

“He always pulls us along, and the shots will end up going in. Whenever he does not score for a while, he ends up shutting us all up.”

Madrid have kept just one clean sheet in their first six La Liga games, falling seven points behind leaders Barcelona, but Carvajal said he believed Zinedine Zidane’s side would solve those problems.

“If I knew why I would tell the boss and we’d correct it,” he said. “We have conceded goals — it is something we must correct. But we are at the start of the season, and we will get tighter at the back.”

Portuguese on target twice in 150th European club match in 3-1 win

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in his 150th European club match as Real Madridbeat Borussia Dortmund for the first time in Germany. His goals wrapped up a 3-1 win after Gareth Bale had put them ahead with a superb volley in the 18th minute.

Ronaldo doubled Real’s lead before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled a goal back in the 54th minute but the Portuguese international confirmed the holders’ victory when he fired past Dortmund’s keeper Roman Buerki in the 79th minute.

It also ensured there would be no repeat of last season’s draw, when Dortmund had come from 2-0 down, and Real now have maximum points from two matches in Group H and are neck-and-neck with Tottenham, who also gained their second win by beating Apoel Nicosia 3-0 in Cyprus.

Real were lucky not to concede a penalty when Sergio Ramos cleared a Maximilian Philipp effort off the line with his hand before Bale gave them the lead from Daniel Carvajal’s cross .

Dortmund had a chance to equalise just after the break but Raphaël Varane cleared Andriy Yarmolenko’s cross on the goalline before Aubameyang could take advantage.

It was Real, however, who scored again when Bale was given too much space to cut in and find Ronaldo in the penalty area. Aubameyang stabbed in Gonzalo Castro’s cross to keep the game tight, until Ronaldo broke clear with his 13th goal in his last seven Champions League games.

Afterwards the Real coach, Zinedine Zidane, said: “We had chances. We had a spectacular game, a brilliant game. I am delighted for Ronaldo and Bale. The side worked hard. The midfield worked very hard. I am extremely happy because they played a tremendous game.”

While Liverpool were drawing against Spartak MoscowSevilla moved clear at the top of Group E with a 3-0 win over Maribor at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán with their striker Wissam Ben Yedder becoming the first player in the club’s history to score a hat-trick in a European game.

The Frenchman nudged in from close range in the 26th minute to give Eduardo Berizzo’s side the lead after a strong run from the Argentinian Joaquin Correa, who beat four players before cutting the ball back to his team-mate.

Ben Yedder then latched on to a simple through ball from Franco Vázquez after some neat passing in midfield to tuck the ball under Maribor’s goalkeeper Jasmin Handanovic and in off the far post in the 37th. He completed his hat-trick with seven minutes remaining from the penalty spot after a foul on Sébastien Corchia.

In the Group F meeting between the first match losers, an early goal from Lorenzo Insigne put Napoli on course for a 3-1 win over Feyenoord, who had lost their opening game 4-0 at home to Manchester City, in a match the Serie A side dominated although their opponents missed a penalty.

REAL MADRID star Cristiano Ronaldo is fuming about Andre Gomes’ treatment at Barcelona.

Gomes is deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu despite being signed just 12 months ago from Valencia.

However, he doesn’t feature in Ernesto Valverde’s plans and the former Athletic Bilbao boss is keen to get rid.

Spanish news outlet Don Balon claim Ronaldo is shocked to learn that Gomes isn’t wanted by Barca.

It’s suggested the duo discussed his predicament while they were on international duty with Portugal.

Despite Barca’s desire to get Gomes off the books, they aren’t willing to sell him on the cheap.

Valverde is demanding a hefty £32m to part with the 24-year-old.

REAL MADRID star Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly use his current suspension to put in hard graft as he aims to beat Barcelona star Lionel Messi to the Ballon d’Or.

Ronaldo has endured a difficult start to the season after the Real Madrid star received a five-game ban for pushing the referee in the 3-1 Spanish Super Cup win over Barcelona.

The former Manchester United forward was slapped with the ban after initially being sent-off for a second bookable offence.

The 32-year-old is known to have been left enraged by the decision of the Spanish authorities to uphold the suspension, taking to Instagram to vent his fury.

He then followed that up with a post last night saying: ”From injustice to injustice, they will never bring me down.”

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo wants to beat Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to the Ballon d’Or

And Spanish outlet Don Balon claims Ronaldo is aiming to channel his frustration to make himself an even more formidable opponent for opposition defenders.

He has supposedly confessed to his closest friends that he plans to use the time out to regain his fitness.

The veteran joined pre-season late this summer because of his involvement at the Confederations Cup with Portugal.

Former Real Madrid director of football Arrigo Sacchi believes current star Cristiano Ronaldo’s dedication has earned him a longevity that was beyond his forerunner, hailing the four-time Ballon d’Or winner as “an exemplary professional”.

Cristiano Ronaldo is not as naturally talented as his Brazilian namesake, but hard work has elevated him to his status as the world’s best, according to former Real Madrid director of football Arrigo Sacchi.

Brazil forward Ronaldo led the line for Real Madrid during Sacchi’s brief time in the job in the mid-2000s, racking up 104 goals in 177 appearances over the course of his five-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

But Sacchi believes current star Cristiano Ronaldo’s dedication has earned him a longevity that was beyond his forerunner, hailing the four-time Ballon d’Or winner as “an exemplary professional”.

“I once went to meet Carlo Ancelotti when he was at Real, and do you know who was there working out an hour and a half before training? Cristiano Ronaldo,” Sacchi told Corriere dello Sport.

“The other Ronaldo, the Brazilian, had more quality but he didn’t last as long because he was looking for privileges, he didn’t want to run much.

Real have welcomed the Portuguese back to first-team training after a tumultuous off-season

Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Real Madrid training for the first time since reports he wanted to leave the club emerged earlier in the transfer window.

Madrid released images of Ronaldo back training with the first-team squad on Saturday, his arrival ahead of the new season coming later than his team-mates due to his participation in the Confederations Cup with Portugal.

“Ronaldo completed the first half of training alongside the group, before moving on to train alone as he works on getting back in shape ahead of the new season,” read Madrid’s training report.

A dramatic period since winning the Champions League has seen the forward become the subject of a tax complaint from Spanish prosecutors, a case which saw him appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on Monday.

Ronaldo has consistently denied the claims of financial misdemeanour and his apparent unhappiness at the investigation prompted reports he no longer wanted to play in Spain.
