Michael Phelps is the most decorated swimmer in the sport’s history and has more Olympic medals than any human in history with 28, ahead of Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina who has 18 across three Olympics from 1956-1964.

Although what Phelps has done was unprecedented, he wants kids to believe that they are fully capable of achieving what he achieved.

“A lot of people thought that what I did was impossible,” Phelps told The National, a newspaper based in the United Arab Emirates.

Sportscaster Elliotte Friedman has apologized after mixing up swimming juggernauts Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte during CBC’s live broadcast of the men’s 200 metre individual medley at the Rio Olympics on Thursday night.

“Finally, he’s going to do it! Ryan Lochte is going to beat Michael Phelps in this event in the Games!” Friedman said as Phelps pulled ahead of Lochte.

RIO DE JANEIRO – Michael Phelps told American youngsters Caeleb Dressel and Ryan Held to “let the tears out” after they broke down with emotion following the United States’ dramatic victory in the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay on Sunday night.

Held, 21, and Dressel, 19, joined Olympic legend Phelps and anchor Nathan Adrian to beat out France and Australia, and wept with joy both on the medal podium and afterwards.
