Man Utd were close to signing Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich in 2014 but the midfielder signed for Real Madrid.

Toni Kroos insists he made the right decision in signing for Real Madrid over Manchester United in 2014.

David Moyes was keen on the then-Bayern Munich midfielder, and worked on a deal to bring him to Old Trafford at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

But Louis van Gaal pulled the plug and Kroos chose to move to the Bernabeu, where he has since won two Champions League titles.

And for Kroos, Carlo Ancelotti’s belief in his abilities was key to the transfer.

“My change of team was correct, in fact, from my point of view there is no doubt about it,” said Kroos.

“Clearly, if you go abroad to a top club, it means one more step in your development.

“Carlo Ancelotti wanted me in Madrid, and had bet on me.”

The German international is now a key figure in Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid side, who are bidding for an unprecedented hat-trick of consecutive Champions League trophies.

The midfielder helped Real Madrid lift the trophy in August with a 5-1 win over arch rivals Barcelona over the two games.

And with a large collection of titles already to his name including World Cup champion, La Liga Champion and three Champions Leagues titles the German believes his latest medal can be put to better use.

The items are up for sale of the auction site United Charity and will give bidders three weeks to put in an offer.

All the money will go to the Toni Kroos Foundation and be used “to fulfill the wishes of seriously handicapped children and relieve the affected families with financial support in this difficult situation.”
