Scruggs: Texas sure confused a very good Notre Dame team with its tempo in the season opener. I think Charlie Strong and his staff will continue to use both signal callers and as the year goes along they will tweak the rotation as they see fit.

It certainly will keep defenses coordinators working overtime during the week because the sub-packages needed to defend each UT quarterback will vary.

Is it overreacting to say that Texas and Houston are the two best teams in the state?

Scruggs: Of course it is. Having all spring and summer to gear up for a top-10 opponent is easy. Two years ago Ohio State lost at home to unranked Virginia Tech and never lost again as the won the College Football Playoff.

Texas still has to play a tough schedule in the Big 12 and Houston still has a matchup with a ranked Louisville team to play in mid November.
